Black History Month in Downtown Albany 

Look no further than these scheduled events as you celebrate Black History Month:

 

·         Albany Public Library (518-427-4300, albanypubliclibrary.org)

o   Black History Month Lecture:  February 26th; Led by Bishop Howard Hubbard, chairman of the Committee on International Justice and Peace at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Free and open to the public. Light refreshments.

·         Empire State Plaza (518-473-0559, ogs.state.ny.us)

o   New York State Black History Month Kick-Off Celebration: February 2; Viewing of National Exhibit “This Great Nation Will Endure” photographs with accompanying program

o   Martin Luther King, Jr. Art Display: February 5th-26th

o   Cultural Expo – Discovering the African American Legacy: February 17th-18th; Cultural craft vendors, ethnic food vendor, information booths and musical performances on the South Concourse

·         Palace Theatre (518-465-3334, palacealbany.com)

o   The City of Albany’s Gospel Gala: February 5th; This FREE event includes performances by many local gospel choirs and liturgical dance groups.

o   Black History Month STEP SHOW: February 6th; This annual event showcases the historical traditions of African American & Latino Fraternities and Sororities, revolving around the Divine Nine, the nine traditionally Black Greek organizations.

o   25 To Life – Performed by Too Deep Entertainment: February 27th; A theatrical depiction of the lives of six twenty-five year olds living in a community mired in poverty, violence, failing schools, and untapped potential, and where the advantages of life are far and few between.
