Beginners Ashtanga Yoga

Beginners Ashtanga Yoga

Root3d hosts Beginners Ashtanga Yoga Sundays at 10:00-11:30 AM.

Ashtanga Yoga has deep roots and is one of the most practiced yoga disciplines world-wide. Known as the “eight-limbed” yoga (asto means eight, anga, limbed), it was popularized by Sri Pattabhi Jois in the early 1970’s and brought to the west by his faithful students. The Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series is a deliberate sequence of poses connecting movement and breath, and builds strength and flexibility. It begins with sun salutations, followed by a sequence of standing poses (asanas), then seated poses – the “Primary Series,” and concludes with the finishing sequence. Each pose is connected by deep and cleansing breaths. This class will be an introduction to the traditional Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series. It will focus on the foundational aspects of Ashtanga yoga and help practitioners become comfortable with the choreography of movement and breath. There will be significantly more instruction than a traditional Ashtanga yoga led class.
