About us: Capital Affairs Principles Eileen B. Handelman and Christine Sisto Mertes

For more than 25 years, Handelman has worked in the Capital Region creating innovative events, partnerships and marketing programs for local businesses. As the proprietor of Convention Service Associates, she coordinated some of the largest statewide conventions for both government agencies and corporate clients. Handelman then served as the Director of Development & Public Relations for 12 years of the largest senior service provider in the region. In this role, she developed a specialty within the non profit sector and was responsible for increasing the fundraising of the organization by more than 120% while brokering unique partnerships with corporate entities.

As a principal in Capital Affairs, LLC, Handelman works with not-for-profit organizations in their struggles to execute key fundraising programs with the limited staff capacity that is common to those organizations, as well as government and corporate clients looking to expand visibility in the marketplace through awareness campaigns and special events.

Christine Sisto Mertes has built a reputation in the Capital Region community as a premier event planner, having executed some of the region's most successful fundraising and corporate events. She has authored dozens of successful direct mail initiatives, and launched strategic marketing campaigns for both corporate and not-for-profit clients.

With more than 17 years of event planning experience, Mertes has a unique skill of customizing sponsorship programs to benefit a corporation's specific marketing objectives. As the sole coordinator for the Travers Wine Tasting, Mertes built the event from year one into one of the region's most popular events, netting more than $100,000 of support for the presenting non profit organization. With a degree in communications, Mertes has effectively built messages for not-for-profit organizations that reach the philanthropic community.

As a principal in Capital Affairs, LLC, Mertes works closely with clients to build cost-effective programs ranging from promotional campaigns to tailored special events.
