Irish American Heritage Museum hosts Grosse Isle: Celtic Influences Concert Series on Saturday, March 29 from 7:00 PM-9:00 PM. Tickets $33.42 via Eventbrite.
The Irish American Heritage Museum is proud to announce new, quarterly events as part of its "Celtic Influences Performance Series. These shows, which will be held at IAHM's Flanagan Theater, Albany's most intimate performance space, will highlight performers and acts from around the globe that derive their energy and art from our rich, ancestral Irish culture.
There is no better band to commence this series than Grosse Isle. Based in Quebec, Grosse Isle has been described in The Irish Music Magazine as an “absolutely magical” musical collaboration between three exceptional performers from Quebec and Ireland. Together, Sophie Lavoie (fiddle, piano, vocals), François-Félix Roy (guitar, podorhythmie), and Fiachra O’Regan (uilleann pipes, whistle, banjo & vocals) shine with their rich and enveloping music.
One does not have to search far to find the Celtic influences in this internationally known group. The band name refers to the story of the mass arrival of the Irish in the 19th century, on Grosse Île in the St. Lawrence River, as the heart-beats of Ireland fled the Great Famine.
This is a listening experience not to be missed. Fusing Irish and Québécois repertoire with original compositions, Grosse Isle's performances provide beautifully a striking encounter between two peoples and two cultures.
The Irish American Heritage Museum is grateful to its sponsors, the Flanagan family and the Albany Parking Authority.
