Additional Capital Walls murals coming to Downtown
Downtown Albany will soon be home to additional public art, thanks to a continued partnership between Albany Center Gallery, Albany Barn, and Albany Parking Authority.
Another six Capital Walls murals will be painted around Downtown this summer as a continuation of the existing pieces by local and internationally-known artists at locations including the Quackenbush and Green-Hudson parking garages, River Street, and Clinton Avenue off ramp. An endeavor aimed at inspiring the community with uplifting, educational, or thought-provoking works of public art, Tony Iadicicco - executive director of the Albany Center Gallery - told the Albany Business Review that muralists help spread the word about what's in Albany, adding that the murals can help energize residents and visitors by adding color to their days: "That's what I think transforms spaces and places is by adding just a splash of energy and a thoughtfulness."
Proposals for upcoming Capital Walls locations are being accepted via the Albany Center Gallery website, and more information - including a walking tour map of existing murals - can be found here.
