Arena football will return to the Times Union Center in downtown Albany, the National Arena League (NAL) has announced. The unnamed Albany team will join the NAL in fielding a team starting in the 2021 season under a signed three-year agreement with the venue.

The Albany team becomes the 10th under the NAL and joins the Columbus Lions, W.V. Roughriders, Carolina Cobras, Jersey Flight, Jacksonville Sharks, Louisville Xtreme, Tampa Bay, Baltimore Lightning, and Orlando Predators.

During a press conference making the announcement, team owners Ron Tridico and Nate Starling discussed their excitement at bringing an arena football team back to the region, and said a name would be announced soon. Games are expected to start in April 2021.
