The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) was joined by Mayor Kathy Sheehan and spa representatives on February 7 in officially welcoming Spa Wellington to Downtown at 140 State Street.
“Business owners continue to embrace, and are excited to be a part of, Albany’s newest neighborhood,” said Mayor Sheehan. “Those who are invested in helping to meet the needs of new residents, employees, and visitors are vital to unleashing the potential of our Capital City.”
By becoming Wellington Row’s newest tenant the spa completes the retail component of the development’s mixed-use occupancy goals, and joins Capital Bank’s regional headquarters, Aeon Nexus, Capitol Melts cafe, Manatt, Phelps and Phillips, Capital Health Consulting, National Industries for the Blind, and the Renaissance Albany Hotel in the five-building block. Proximity to the hotel offers two benefits: Clients receive complimentary parking at the hotel’s garage and also have the ability to dine on items from Wellington’s restaurant while receiving their treatment.
“As investment occurs throughout our District, high-quality destinations like Spa Wellington are becoming the hallmark of Downtown,” said Georgette Steffens, executive director of the Downtown Albany BID. “Business owners and developers are activating our streets by attracting residents, employees, and visitors, and preparing to welcome the estimated 80,000 conventioneers who will soon be enjoying our world-class dining, retail, and arts and entertainment venues.”
The full-service salon and spa opened in late 2016 and offers services ranging from manicures and pedicures to microdermabrasion and 12 different kinds of massages; certified technicians on staff are able to offer specialized services for clients with diabetes and other medical conditions.
“At Spa Wellington, we are dedicated to more than just making our clients look and feel their best,” said Whitney Sober, Spa Wellington master stylist. “Our reach extends far beyond our doorstep as we donate all hair clippings to an eco program combating major oil spills and oil contamination of waterways; we also strive to utilize cruelty-free, sustainable ingredients that support local farmers and agriculture around the world.”
